The rock, named 2014-YB35, will pass by relatively close to Earth. But that is 2.8 million miles away, 11.7 times further away than the moon.
According to NASA the asteroid was visible on March 9th and will be up until March 30. But you will almost certainly need a telescope to see it.
In fact, there was a closer one in January 2015, when a massive asteroid the size of a mountain went byat a much closer distance of 1,199,600 km, or 3.1 lunar distances. It even had its own moon.
2014-YB35 is set to have an even closer encounter with Earth in less than 20 years. It is expected to pass by the planet again in 2033 at a distance of about 2,070,000 miles.
